Surfing - Phuket

The West Coast surfing season runs from around April to November and is starting to make a name for itself. Waves are maximum 3 metre which makes it a good place to learn. Surfing here isn’t limited to beginners though. A number of well-known surfers have been spotted in the area as it continues to grow in popularity. 1. Kata Beach

Considered the surfing capital of Phuket, Kata Beach offers a friendly, laid back atmosphere, plenty of surfers, spectators and surfing themed bars. Renowned for its consistent surf, the island’s biggest annual surfing competition is held here. The waves are fast and provide a thrilling ride.

2. Nai Harn

This beach has is a permanent sandbank at the Southern end that often gives a fast ride. The Northern end has a beach-and-reef break in the corner. The swells here can get dangerous.

3. Bang Tao

Popular for small to mid sized waves, the centre is protected from swells.

4. Patong Beach

The best place to surf at Patong Beach is at the north end. Or, surf no matter the weather at Surf House Patong Beach. Great for all the family, you can learn to surf in a safe environment. As well as surf lanes there are bars and restaurants, a co-working space and plenty of surf themed shopping.
